about

Former Little Hours mainman John Doherty continues to make strides with his solocareer. Having just returned from a successful tour of Germany, the Killybegs, Donegal native has been back in the studio in Dublin with producer Cormac Butler and together they have come up with the feel-good anthem 'Feel Alive'.

John says: “‘Feel Alive’ is a song about finding and appreciating my hometown again. I’ve lived away from Donegal since I left school but moved back during the pandemic. It sounds rural, but the idea came to me when I was collecting hay with my father during one of the lockdowns. It was an unbelievable summer's day and we were in a field along the coast, overlooking the Atlantic. A local farmer, who must have been about ninety, came over for a chat and to see what was happening. Even at his age he wanted to get involved. He was talking about the strange times we were in and that there was a storm coming next week. He said
the words “they’re talking about all the rain and the big winds coming” and those lines just stuck with me and were the spark for the song. The rest of the song fell into place for me through memories of growing up here and experiences I was going through at the time."

‘Feel Alive’ has been mixed by Peter Ashmore, best known for his work with David Keenan and Wyvern Lingo. Having co-founded and led successful indie band Little Hours for eight years, John Doherty started to release his new music under his own name at the end of 202.

lyrics

Tell me are you living or just doing your best to survive?
Have you started healing or still not found the time?

We all heard the news on the radio
They’re talking about all the rain and the big winds coming
I’ve got a mind just to let it go
And stay here with you, skipping stones, in a place we could call home

Hey now don’t you feel alive?
You’ve got your own little piece of paradise
How could you say that it doesn’t feel right now?

Hey now don’t you let this go
Life wasn’t easy and it’s starting to show
And she gave up on love a long time ago but she’s trying

Oh do you remember we were just living for those Friday nights?
Kissing and fighting but I think that we almost got it right

We all heard the news on the radio
They’re talking about all the rain and the big winds coming
I’ve got a mind just to let it go
And stay here with you, skipping stones, in a place we could call home

Hey now don’t you feel alive?
You’ve got your own little piece of paradise
How could you say that it doesn’t feel right now?

Hey now don’t you let this go
Life wasn’t easy and it’s starting to show
And she gave up on love a long time ago but she’s trying

We all heard the news on the radio
They’re talking about all the rain and the big winds coming
I’ve got a mind just to let it go
And stay here with you, skipping stones, in a place we could call home

Hey now don’t you feel alive?
You’ve got your own little piece of paradise
How could you say that it doesn’t feel right now?

Hey now don’t you let this go
Life wasn’t easy and it’s starting to show
And she gave up on love a long time ago but she’s trying

Hey now don’t you feel alive?
Are you still living for those Friday nights
Kissing and fighting for a couple of lines just to sing about

Hey now don’t you feel alive?
You’ve got your own little piece of paradise
Hey now don’t you feel alive?
